What is the journey of Spiritual Direction? I like to call it an eye-opening and heart-warming experience. So often in life, our doubts and discouragements blind us to the reality that we are the beloved sons and daughters of God. Consider this:

In the gospel of Luke, we find two deeply dismayed travelers walking one another home after suffering a great disappointment. A man comes alongside, sees their downcast faces, and gently asks, “What’s happened?” Not recognizing that it’s Jesus, the two travelers pour out their story to him. Jesus listens intently without interrupting. And then…into the void of their disillusionment, Jesus speaks, brings light to their circumstances, and opens their eyes to recognize him. The presence of Jesus sets their hearts on fire. (Based on Luke 24: 13-32)

Spiritual Direction involves sharing what is in your heart and on your mind with an encouraging listener who helps you embrace your identity as a beloved child of God.

Together, we develop a consistent rhythm of sitting together in the presence of God for sacred conversation. Together, we seek to recognize God’s movement in your life.

In Spiritual Direction, we encounter spacious places and sacred spaces. We taste and see. We linger and savor. We explore the liminal spaces which exist between “the now and the not yet” and the “thin spaces” where heaven and earth seem to overlap. At times, we might seem to be wandering, but in yielding to the Spirit, the journey always leads deeper into the heart of God.
